Your child may have autism, but autism must not have your child!

This should be the the motto for every parent who heard the dreadful words from their child’s neurologist. Presently, one in 110 boys and one in 140 girls are diagnosed with the autism disorder.

In recognition of Autism Awareness month, VaZu Kids wants to get involved. We are committed to donate 20% from the proceeds of every book sold on vazukids.com to Autism Society of America, and will match the donation amount after the first 1000 books are sold!

Get beautiful VaZu Kids books for children that enlighten your life and help us to help the cause!

With Love,

BOOKS THAT CHALLENGE, EXCITE…

by Joanna Clay

An Irvine mother and father are celebrating the release of their second children’s book, “I Can Fly Super Duper High.”

Zuma Ayriyan, Robert, Alex and John Khachatryan. (Daily Pilot / January 22, 2011)

Zuma Ayriyan and John Khachatryan wrote their first book, “Look Who Is Coming…”, in 2009 that was inspired by Alex, their autistic son. They also founded their publishing company, VaZu Kids, the same year.

When reading “Look Who is Coming…”, children insert pictures of family, friends and guests in the story. The goal of the book is to give autistic children a “heads-up” about new people in their lives, reinforce facial recognition and make them feel comfortable when guests arrive.

Although both books are for all children, Ayriyan said they were written to provide their son with challenging and exciting reading experiences that wouldn’t overwhelm him.

CHILDREN’S BOOK IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

by Theresa Walker

At casual glance, the new children’s storybook “Look Who Is Coming” is a cute and fun way to teach youngsters how to read along and recognize colors and objects and the people in their lives.

Parents can personalize the book by easily inserting photos of their children, family members, pets and significant others. The kids can lift flaps on each page to see who is sitting inside an assortment of cars, a pickup truck and a big yellow school bus.

What’s more telling is the story behind the storybook.

The authors are an Irvine couple, Varuzhan “John” Khachatryan, a musician, and Zuma Ayriyan, an immigration lawyer. The inspiration is John and Zuma’s youngest son, Alex, 5, who has autism.

“Look Who Is Coming” earned special mention in this month’s issue of Parenting Magazine along with two other books as “helpful new titles” out in time for Autism Awareness Month.

It is the most public demonstration of the time and effort Alex’s parents have devoted to helping him progress beyond the severe state of regression he was in two years ago when he was diagnosed with autism.

The first signs of the disorder started showing up when Alex was about 11/2 and began rolling his eyes, flapping his arms and engaging in repetitive behavior — all classic behavioral characteristics of autism.

The little boy who once loved his favorite books also stopped showing any interest in that form of engagement. Worse, he refused to eat solid food…
